In an effort to secure its flanks before advancing on Berlin, the 1st Guards Tank Army struck into the Pomerania region in northern Germany. Resistance was weak by this time, but occasionally the Germans put up a spirited defense in one of the villages on the road to Kolberg. On March 4th, the 1st Guards Tank Brigade raced for Kolberg to link up with forces of the 2nd Belorussian Front.
